Stay in our home near Voss, in the heart of Western Norway
Experience a friendly family home. Explore fjords and mountains. Enjoy concerts, festivals and outdoor adventures around Voss; hiking, skiing, kayaking, biking, sky-diving…
We offer pleasant accommodation in Evanger, a small, pretty village just one hour by car/train from Bergen and 20 minutes from Voss. The village centre is picturesque, alongside a lake and river, with mountains on every side. Within walking distance, there are hiking trails, a shop, workshops and other businesses, and the start of Den grøne sløyfa, a spectacular route by bicycle or car.
We have three guest rooms: two comfortable rooms which share a bathroom in the hallway, and a new room with a private/en-suite bathroom. In the summer, we often have workawayers and other international guests staying long-term. Downstairs, we have our own café, which is open most of the year Saturday evenings and Sunday daytime, and several days a week in the summer.
Our house is a large, comfortable and rustic family home; we love it very much, but it is not luxurious and there is always something to improve. Staying with us gives an opportunity to meet a British-Norwegian family and experience family life in a Norwegian setting. Several children aged 9-18 live in the house, so there is often a lot of activity – though the children always try to be considerate. Guests stay in our home – this is not a hotel!

Evanger has a rich history, and the old street and houses are protected because of their historic value. There is a monument in the village commemorating Knute Nelson (1843 – 1923), the US senator who was born in poverty in Evanger, and who serves as a symbol of the struggle and ultimate success of some of the poor who emigrated from Norway in the 1800s.
Voss is a small town with lot of activity, summer and winter, and it is a great place for hiking, skiing, extreme sports, and music. Voss hosts an annual jazz festival the weekend before Easter, an extreme sports festival in June, and a folk music festival in late October, in addition to sports events and concerts throughout the year.
From here, it is easy to reach Gudvangen, FlÃ¥m, Voss, Bergen, and other nearby places by car, train and bus; you can also easily join the Norway in a Nutshell tour. There is free parking outside the house. Evanger station and bus stops are a few minutes’ walk from the house, and connections to Voss, Bergen and Oslo are easy and convenient. In the winter, the morning and afternoon trains connect with the gondola and free shuttle bus to the two main ski resorts Bavallen and Myrkdalen.
